About Us
Big Sandy SWCD is 1 of 47 Soil and Water Conservation Districts in the Commonwealth of VA. We where established as the 47th Soil & Water Conservation District in Virginia. Our role is to serve Buchanan County in the conservation of its natural resources and to provide assistance to it's citizens through varies programs that we offer. Currently we offer assistance to local farmers through our VACS (Virginia Agricultural Cost-Share Program), Water & Wastewater assistance through our partnership with SERCAP (Southeast Rural Community Assistance Project). In partnership with Buchanan County and the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors we administer the county's local Erosion & Sediment Control Program, to help protect our water ways from sediment & other pollutants whenever land disturbing occurs. We assist the Buchanan County Litter Control Office with varies events and activities; illegal dumpsite mapping & cleanup, recycling and school beautification just to name a few. Lastly we provide educational programs to help students and teachers K-12 meet SOL guidelines and we provide educational outreach to the citizens of Buchanan County.

Monthly meetings are held every third Wednesday of each month, if there is a change in the meeting date a notice will be posted in the Buchanan County Courthouse three days in advance otherwise; if you plan to attend you can always call our office to confirm date, time and location.
