At Big Sandy Soil & Water Conservation District, outreach is at the heart of our mission to promote sustainable land use and protect our natural resources. We collaborate with local, state, and federal agencies, as well as community volunteer groups, to offer a wide range of educational and service-oriented programs throughout the year. These efforts aim to engage landowners, farmers, and the broader public in best management practices (BMPs) that support long-term environmental stewardship and agricultural sustainability.
One of our most impactful initiatives is our annual waterway cleanup events, where volunteers join forces to remove debris and improve the health of local rivers and streams. These events not only enhance water quality but also raise community awareness about the importance of watershed conservation. Beyond cleanups, we host seasonal Tree Grafting Classes, Homesteading Workshops, and Farmers Meetings that provide valuable hands-on education for landowners and rural residents. Our Seed and Tree Giveaways—organized in partnership with multiple agencies—encourage reforestation, pollinator habitat development, and improved soil health.
If you would like more information about our water quality outreach programs and more—or if you're interested in volunteering during a cleanup event or participating in one of our workshops—please contact us at the number provided. We welcome your involvement in helping to preserve the land and water we all rely on.
